Ava From The Block

A dear friend gave me a beautiful Pucci scarf as a gift and I immediately felt a JLO scarf moment coming on (I'm just, I'm just, Jenny from the block, I used to have no scarf now I have a Pucci, no matter where I go I know I should scarf on...
Unfortunately, when I tried tying my scarf like Ms Lopez’ in below pic; my head ended up looking like an upside down mixing bowl--damn my big weave!  And since I was already thirty minutes behind for Sunday brunch, I took the easy way route and went for the 80s dance instructor head band look…

A Tale Of A Maybe Fashion Addict
I find that I am getting tired of the ordinary. Much like a pill head's expected descent into taking the "stronger" stuff, I now refuse to purchase anything cotton or jersey and I no longer swoon over silk and chiffon when it comes to purchasing an outfit.  Instead, I am salivating over feathers, ornament encrusted garments, metallic gold shields made into bustiers, t-shirts made with leather... really, I am just loving the "too much" when it comes to picking out clothes these days.  I am terrified a meat dress will be in my near future...

Whatev... if that happens, I blame my parents. You know... for not giving me enough birdies and fake diamonds when I was a kid.
Alice and Olivia Feather Skirt, Zara white blouse, Pencey Jacket

Purse from Modalistas in NYC
Tom Ford sunglasses, Salvatore Ferragamo sandals (if you have not noticed, I really love these shoes)

There are days when ground meat tastes a whole lot better than grade A steak.

Splendor in the Grass--My Most Recent Attempt At Designing

I really adore the hem of this dress so I added this picture to show it (yes... I realize I am really touting my horn here.  Please let it pass).

Dress: My own design
Shoes: Salvatore Ferragamo
Ring and Bracelet: Houston Heights district and Indian shop on Bissonnet, respectively
Glasses: Urban Outfitters

Mes Reves' favorite guest blogger, Christiana Duodu got married a couple of weeks ago.  This is the dress I wore to her ceremony. Not to worry, pictures of her and her event will be posted soon.  Stay tuned because the bride looked phenomenal!

Jacquard and Sheers

Wrist bracelet worn as arm bracelet.

Zara shoes, Carmen Marc Valvo pants
Today was a terrible picture day. I really need to learn how to photoshop someone else's face and body into my outfits for days like these. Anyway, you guys should just imagine someone better and cheerier looking wearing these clothes. It might help you really appreciate the whimsical allure of these pants, the way good tailoring and the Gods of Chiffon truly intended :)

Inspiration-- La Chamade, my new favorite French movie made in the late 60s starring Catherine Deneuve. Rent it if you can.

I've been watching a lot of movies from the 60s recently and my take away has been the fashion color palettes used when women got dressed up--wearing the same color, beginning with a woman's hat all the way down to her shoes.  I guess my feeling of needing to dress matchy mathcy these past couple of months has been my response to bucking the pattern on pattern/color blocking that has infected the fashion world for the past couple of years. These pics are my most recent attempt:

Zara top, Top Shop tie dye short shorts

Ray Ban sunglasses, Gucci yellow slides
Have a great last day of summer everyone.
