Happy Bday Ms. K!!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick post-- late to HH for a friend's birthday but I knew I will not get to posting after the festivities.  So here we are...

I wish I could say the dress was vintage but unfortunately I picked it up from SAKS.  It reminded of something I can get at a Mexican market sans the flower in my hair.

Bag by Michael Kors

Shoes by Enzo Angiolini. I purchased these from Dillards over 5 years ago when I was still on my parents' dime--still LOVE.

Bidi Bidi Bom Bom... Fringe frenzy

It hit 89 degrees yesterday afternoon and everywhere I turned someone was having a crawfish boil party.  I took the liberties of inviting myself over to my neighbor's party and was rewarded with the best crawfish (first time ever having them).  I know... I owe them a "thank you" gift.  It's a lot of work to eat ( involves breaking, applying pressure and sucking-- just to get the meat from the tail end) but it's so worth it.  I wish I had taken pictures of the meal and the pro-crawfish eaters around for you guys; it was definitely something to see.  For the occasion I wore...

Fringe top from Zara and a Silk Marni skirt I picked up from a consignment store in Chelsea

Fendi "colorblock" sandals: my splurge of the season so you will be seeing it quite often.

Roberto Cavalli sunglasses

And finally, a close up of the headless fashion victim.   Hope you are having a good Sunday!

Bye bye winter!

Or in our case (i.e. Texans), bye bye tumultuous fall. I lived in below fox-fur trimmed hoodie all season.  It was very lazy of me but as I have been told many times, lazy becomes moi.  That was definitely not a compliment when stated, but I was too blah (i.e mentally lazy) to care...

Ahhh, my spring dream...

I am on the hunt for this outfit--well, mainly I want, want, want the turban.  Unfortunately, I find that it is impossible to find one large enough to fit my head.  Till next time...

Flea market find... Grandma's curtains

Found this dress at a flea market in NYC, did some alterations (made it into a tube dress) and voila...

Depending on who you ask, maybe not so much voila... it does significantly reduce my non-existent boobs.  In any case, Maria from The Sound of Music will be very proud of me for mimicking her use of curtains for clothing.

Badgley Mischka slides

Concrete... as close to the earth as I will ever get.

The Power of Fancy--The Kardashians

I have yet to dedicate an hour to watch E's reality series, Keeping up with Kardashians. From what I gather in the previews, it really is a show about nothing.  In an enviable twist, the show about nothing, succeeded in enabling its stars, the Kardashian family, to generate sixty-five million for the year 2010.

Now, I am sure you are wondering, just like I have been, how they made that money during a time when the country's economy, including the entertainment industry, was tanking.  In a recent article from the Hollywood Reporter, Kim told the magazine "I have a blog that has 40 million hits a month, people leave comments: What shoes do you wear, and what lip gloss do you use? My mom told us, 'So why not be a brand for our fans and give them what they want?' Many of our ideas [about what to endorse] come from our fans and then our mother makes it happen."  It seems the Kardashians are cashing-in by inviting the world to witness them  do nothing but walk around dressed in couture (albeit, a little on the skanky side) and Louboutins.  Their public existence is basically one long beauty advertisement starring attractive people.

This family has been successful recipients of what I like to call the Power of Fancy.  The notion that brought about sayings such as: "Dress for the life you want not the life you have" (unknown), "Beauty is everything" (unknown), "I dress for image" (Marlene Dietrich), and "Clothes don't make a man, but clothes have got many a man a good job" (Herbert Vreeland).  The Power of Fancy, equivalent to an "it bag", is usually evoked as an accessory and propellor of success but never the sole reason for it.   I am certain millionaires without tangible professions, skills, or talents aren't what our forefathers had in mind when they conjured up and sold the American dream to the New world and its posterity.  So, by being fascinated with such reality stars with no discernible skills, are we feeding the vapid beast and in turn--are we falling short of the glory of America?
Wouldn't a reality show starring someone from Forbes list of most influential people under 30 be more beneficial to our generation?
I only hope there is not a group of thirty-something’s in another part of the world, working and improving their intelligence to create the world's next biggest invention--America's super power status might get even shakier than it already is ...

My homeless look

For brunch with my gf, I went for the thrash bag, baggy look and she went for classy with a pop--check out her heels.
And yes, my hair is attacking her face...
On moi: Milly jumpsuit, Open Ceremony boots and a Winter Kate fringed top

This look only works when I am going out without my hubby, he detests my "Dr. Seuss" shoes--he came up with that name all by himself :)

Hope you are having a good week

Musing of the day: Black don't crack...

but we sure can expand.  Let this be a cautionary tale to all of us (Refer to pic below of Pam Grier) .

Now don't get me wrong, she will always be fabulous because... well... she is Foxy Brown and a "baaad muthaaa...".  However, I had to do a triple take because at first glance, I thought I was looking at Roseanne.  I guess it does not help that I recently caught a rerun of Jackie Brown with Pam looking and being fierce--I just was not prepared for her new shape...

In any case, I am no longer bringing bread pudding in the bed with moi

PS: Ms. O on other hand looks great.  In other words, I am not saying we should all be on the liquid diet. But maintaining our shape throughout the aging process will definitely help us in winning the aging battle ala Halle and Diana Ross.
